Shands at the University of Florida will open a new intensive care unit Tuesday aimed at providing neuro critical care.

The Neuro ICU “will provide critically ill neurosurgical and neurological patients with consolidated access to UF medical experts and leading-edge technological resources at Shands,” according to a statement from the hospital.

Other dedicated Neuro ICUs, like the one in Gainesville, are located in Orlando, Tallahassee, Miami, St. Petersburg and Tampa.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held for the 30-bed ICU in the morning.
