Hundreds of pinwheels will dot the lawn at the North Florida Regional Medical Center this month as part of an effort to recognize the problem of child abuse.
The Family Law Society at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, along with the Alachua County Child Abuse Prevention Task Force and the medical center, are hosting the event April 13 called “Winds of Change.”
The pinwheels will be placed in recognition of this month as National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
There will be 1,904 pinwheels planted on the lawn. Each represents the 1,904 substantiated cases of child abuse or neglect in Alachua County in 2007.
The event is open to the public and will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the medical center front lawn, across from The Oaks Mall on Newberry Road.
