A new University of Florida walking program encourages faculty, staff and
students to de-stress during the week by taking a 20-minute walk during
their lunch break.
Walking Gators, a program created by UF's Healthy Gators 2010, encourages
people to meet at one of six locations at 12:15 p.m. around campus every
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Walkers are lead throughout the area at a
moderate pace by a route leader, according to the program's Web site.
About 200 people participated Tuesday for the start of the program.
"This is a great opportunity for everyone to take a break during their work
day and take time to do something healthy for themselves," said Chris
Machen, chairwoman of Healthy Gators 2010 and UF first lady.
