Students at the University of Florida will gather today at 1:15 p.m. to pull down a student-painted cinder block wall depicting hate in the Plaza of the Americas.
The event culminates a two-week project against hate that comes to a close this afternoon with student performances and a speaker from the university.
In the closing ceremonies, students will take hold of the attached ropes and pull down the 9-ft. by 40-ft. wall.
Students painted individual cinder blocks with a word or phrase that has negatively affected them last week. The wall of 400 blocks was then constructed Monday and stood in the middle of the plaza this week.
The wall symbolizes the barriers between people in our society, according to the project's Web site.
