A Hastings man died in Putnam County Thursday night after he was thrown from his motorcycle and then struck by a car.
Killed was Reginald D. Bascom, 37, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The accident occurred on State Road 207, near Alford Road, at about 8 p.m., according to troopers.
Bascom had been driving a 1984 Honda motorcycle north in the road's inside lane when he hit a mattress in the roadway, according to troopers. The motorcycle overturned, and Bascom was ejected.
A car traveling on the road later drove by and hit the same mattress. The vehicle's driver swerved to the right and struck Bascom who was in the road's outside lane.
Troopers did not immediately know if Bascom died from his initial injuries or after he was struck by the car.
