Detectives have issued arrest warrants for two Waldo residents who reportedly fled the area with their three children when allegations of child abuse arose, according to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
Arrest warrants were obtained Thursday for Rachel Couliette Holland, 29, and Jimmy D. Ruffner, 22, on charges of removing a minor from the state or concealing their location. Bond for Holland has been set at $150,000, and Ruffner's bond is $300,000, the Sheriff's Office reported.
Holland and Ruffner reportedly fled the area on Jan. 22 with their three children: Sebastian Lee, 7, Gabrielle Holland, 4, and Tristin Ruffner, age 3 months, according Sgt. Keith Faulk with the Sheriff's Office.
"There is an open criminal investigation into allegations of child abuse," Faulk said. "We are concerned for the welfare of the three children. The mother and stepfather were notified of the investigation and fled their residence."
The Waldo residents are thought to be headed toward Michigan, and they were last seen in a four-door, green Mercury Sable with temporary tags.
