Although several names have been thrown out there in recent weeks, Florida coach Urban Meyer is not close to filling the two vacancies on his coaching staff.

In a text message, Meyer said he was not going to rush hiring replacements for Doc Holliday and Stan Drayton. He said he planned to hire the best coaches available and that nothing would happen until after national signing day next Wednesday.

Holliday left the staff earlier this month to coach at West Virginia and Drayton left to coach running backs at Tennessee.

Meyer obviously has been focusing on recruiting, and he's been able to put together one of the nation's top classes even with two assistants missing, including one of the top recruiters on the staff (Holliday).

When Meyer turns his focus to a coaching search next week, he'll definitely have an idea where to look.

Back in December, when Holliday emerged as a candidate for the head coaching job at West Virginia, Meyer said every year he comes up with a list of potential assistants should someone leave his staff. He said he bases his list on coaches he has some connection with, would get along with the rest of the staff, and recruits lights out.
