An open house will be held Thursday in Alachua so residents can learn about a construction project on U.S. 441, the Florida Department of Transportation reported.
The 2.8 mile project involves the resurfacing of the roadway between the CSX railroad and NW 167th Boulevard, north of Interstate 75, according to DOT.
The open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alachua City Hall at 15100 NW 142nd Terr.
Work on the $3.3 million project, handled by Anderson Columbia, Inc., will include removing and replacing existing pavement, replacing broken concrete sidewalk and adding new sidewalk under I-75, adding wheelchair-accessible ramps to the sidewalk at the side street intersections, and replacing the existing guardrail under the interstate.
Nighttime lane closures in the area are set to begin next month from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
The project is expected to be complete in the early fall.
