Rep. Dave Weldon's daughter arrested

* MELBOURNE - The daughter of U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon was arrested after a fight broke out in a bar she was patronizing, authorities said.

Kathryn Marie Weldon, 21, of Melbourne was arrested Friday at the County Line Saloon in Brevard County, authorities said.

Deputies said Weldon was at the bar when some of the patrons got into a fight. When a bouncer stepped in to stop the fight, she hit him with a high-heeled shoe, said Lt. Andrew Walters, a spokesman for the Brevard County Sheriff. The man had to get stitches.

Weldon was released Friday on a $500 bond after being booked on a simple battery charge.

Rep. Weldon had announced Friday he would not seek an eighth term in Congress. The Republican doctor from Palm Bay said he wants to return to his medical practice full time.

Authorities say Franklyn Duzant decapitated his wife, Evangeline, 52, and nearly decapitated his son, Nico, with a samurai sword in June 2006.

Duzant faces two counts of first-degree murder.

Seminole Circuit Court Judge Donna McIntosh announced a Feb. 27 trial date during a brief hearing Friday.
