It was ladies night Thursday in the local high school sports scene, as the area's basketball career scoring record found a new home in Mayo, and Gainesville, Taylor County and Keystone Heights advanced to the FHSAA regional soccer semifinals.

Lafayette senior guard Natalie Land scored 23 points in the Hornets' 68-49 victory against visiting Florida High to give her 3,260 for her career, topping by eight the previous mark held by former Hawthorne standout Cornelius Ingram.

"It's really exciting," said Land, who claimed the record with a free throw in the third quarter. "I consider it a big honor beating Cornelius Ingram and being up there with all of the top scorers."
