You have until midnight Thursday to register online if you want to be a part of Dance Marathon, the annual 26-hour event April 5-6 at the O'Connell Center that benefits the patients of Shands Children's Hospitals.
Applications to dance are available online at www.floridadm.org. First you must register at that site by midnight Thursday, then you must turn in a signed application/waiver and $35 payment by 5 p.m. Friday to the Dance Marathon office in Room 313 at the Reitz Union.
To take part in the marathon, you must be part of a registered UF student organization team.
Coming off a record-setting $370,693.70 raised in 2007, an estimated 600 or more dancers will take part April 5-6 to help to promote awareness and raise money for Children's Miracle Network.
"All of the money raised stays in Gainesville. If you go on a tour at Shands, you can definitely see all that Dance Marathon has done," said Mallory Ramos, public relations chair. "You see kids who are using the things that you helped pay for."
More than $2.3 million has been donated in the Dance Marathon's 13 years at UF, making it the largest, most successful student-run philanthropy in the Southeast, according to organizers.
