A fire late Friday afternoon in the building that houses Russell's Barber Shop, 1704 NE 8th Ave., destroyed the second floor of the building and caused water damage to the first floor, according to Lt. Richard Saulsberry with Gainesville Fire Rescue.
Saulsberry said his agency responded to the fire around 4:45 p.m. Friday, and once on scene, firefighters had the flames doused in less than 10 minutes. Saulsberry said Russell's Barber Shop was in operation on the first floor at the time the fire started, but everyone was able to get out of the building unharmed.
Saulsberry said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and he said the second floor was only being used as a storage area.
