TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Homeowners would get a property tax break for energy efficiency and hurricane protection improvements if voters approve a proposed state constitutional amendment in November.
The Taxation and Budget Reform Commission agreed Friday to put the proposal on the ballot.
It would exempt items such as storm shutters and hurricane-resistant shingles, doors and windows from being included in property tax assessments.
The proposal also would exempt solar water heating systems and other energy-saving improvements.
