Volunteers are needed for the annual Great Air Potato Roundup, set for later this month, the city of Gainesville announced.
During the roundup, volunteers collect invasive air potato plants. The event is modeled after litter clean-up programs. Last year, about 1,200 volunteers collected more than nine tons of air potatoes and other invasive plants from 30 natural areas and neighborhoods.
This will be the ninth year the event has been held.
After the roundup, a festival will be held at the Morningside Nature Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with food, entertainment, speakers and prizes.
The roundup runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Jan. 26. To volunteer, contact the Nature Operations Division at (352)334-3326 or register online at www.natureoperations.org.
