Calathes freshman of week

Florida freshman guard Nick Calathes earned Southeastern Conference freshman of the week honors for the second time this season.

Calathes averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds in wins over Alabama and Auburn. The 6-foot-6 guard from Casselberry shot 53.8 percent from 3-point range in the two games.

Calathes leads Florida in scoring (15.2 ppg) and leads the SEC in assists at 5.9 per game. Calathes also earned SEC freshman of the week honors for the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2, 2007.

Werner day-to-day

UF coach Billy Donovan described Werner's status as day-to-day during Monday's news conference and still did not know if he would practice this week.

Werner (sprained right foot) did not start Saturday but came off the bench to score 11 points and grab five rebounds in 30 minutes against Auburn.

"I was surprised we got 30 minutes out of him," Donovan said. "We'll give him the opportunity to practice and we'll see how it goes, and if it's giving him a lot of problems I'll leave it up to the trainer and to the doctors to determine whether he should continue."

Sophomore forward Jonathan Mitchell would likely be the replacement again in the lineup if Werner can't start Wednesday.

Florida received 47 votes in The Associated Press weekly poll Monday, but did not crack the Top 25. Florida was ranked 25th for one week in November, but fell out of the rankings following a 65-51 home loss to Florida State.
