Ocala-based Lange Eye Care has named D. Wayne Keller senior vice president of operations. The new position was created in anticipation of a planned 2008 expansion into the east and west coast Florida markets. Lange has offices in Gainesville.
Keller has more than 30 years in the optical industry and will oversee all phases of the operation. He has worked with factories and design teams in Europe and Asia.
Sheila Zachow, customer relations manager with Gainesville Health & Fitness Centers, has recently become an accredited member of the public relations profession by completing an examination governed by the Universal Accreditation Board.
Zachow serves as president of the Gainesville Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association.
Practitioners who achieve the designation are demonstrating their commitment to a strong code of ethics and to the betterment of their profession.
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums listed the Santa Fe Community College Teaching Zoo's success with the Perdido Key beach mice as one of the top 10 wildlife conservation success stories for 2007. There are a few hundred of the mice left in the wild, inhabiting one barrier island off the coast of Pensacola.
Scientists fear that a hurricane could be disastrous to the beach mice, potentially causing the species to become extinct in the wild.
