DELRAY BEACH -- Authorities say an alligator attack on three dogs in Delray Beach on Sunday left one canine presumed dead.

Witnesses called the Delray Beach Fire-Rescue Department after seeing an alligator moving in on the trio.

When rescuers arrived at the lake, the alligator grabbed one of the dogs and pulled it down. Another dog ran away, while a third was rescued and taken to the county's animal shelter.

Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Russ Accardi said the dogs were probably strays because no one has claimed them.
