A 19-year-old High Springs woman died early Friday morning as a result of

injuries she sustained when she was struck by a vehicle along State Road 26

in Gilchrist County Thursday evening, according to the Florida Highway

Patrol.

Ashley Nicole Branning, 19, of High Springs was struck around 7:45 p.m.

Thursday, FHP reported. She was transported to Shands at the University of

Florida, but later died from her injuries just after midnight.

Troopers reported that Branning and another woman, Stephanie Roth, 20, of

Newberry, were walking along the painted white line on the outside of the

westbound lanes of S.R. 26 when they were struck by a westbound pickup

about a quarter-mile west of the Alachua County line.

Branning suffered most of the impact, and was thrown onto the shoulder,

troopers reported. Roth had only minor injuries, but was also transported

to the hospital. The driver of the pickup, James Thomas McKinney, 61, of

Newberry, was not injured, according to FHP.
