Motorists were reminded that work on State Road 26 between Melrose and

Orange Heights in eastern Alachua County will force the road's closure

starting Monday, the Florida Department of Transportation reported.

SR 26 will be shut down for about two months to repair a depression under

the roadway, the agency reported.

The closure will occur during weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. between

County Road 1469 and CR 219A. Westbound traffic will be detoured to CR 219A

and eastbound to CR 1469. The detour will add about two miles to motorists'

drive. The roadway will be reopened at the end of each work day. Temporary

asphalt will cover holes drilled to fill the cavity under the roadway.
