Temperatures remained in the 30s overnight in the Gainesville area with the wind chill dipping down to the mid 20s, the National Weather Service in Jacksonville reported Friday morning.
Gainesville reported a low of 31 degrees, just below freezing. It was the second night of below-freezing temperatures for the area.
And, likely, the last night for a freeze warning, according to forecasters.
Gainesville should see high temperatures in the mid to upper 50s Friday with lows overnight in the 40s, said meteorologist Scott Carroll. Temperatures should quickly warm up over the weekend with high temperatures in the 70s.
Carroll said this probably isn't the end of the state's cold snaps, although they may not be as cold as this week's temperature dip.
“We're right in the middle of winter now, so I'm sure we'll have a few more
cold outbreaks,” Carroll said.
