Two area residents' New Year's celebrations were made just a bit sweeter this week, as they cashed in lottery tickets worth $100,000 and $10,000 in the Florida Lottery's Holiday Millionaire Raffle.
The Florida Lottery confirmed Thursday that two winning tickets were purchased by Gainesville residents. Shari Dixon, 40, purchased a ticket from a Gainesville Publix that won her $100,000, and Mary Davis, 44, purchased a ticket from a St. Petersburg Citgo that was worth $10,000.
Neither winner could be reached by phone Thursday, but lottery officials said both winners cashed in their tickets Dec. 31 at the local Gainesville lottery office.
In the Holiday Millionaire Raffle, only 1.5 million tickets were sold, but they cost $20 apiece.
Of those 1.5 million tickets, 12 were worth a prize of $1 million, 25 tickets were worth a prize of $100,000, 200 tickets were worth a prize of $10,000 and 20,000 tickets were $50 instant-win tickets.
The only million-dollar ticket sold in the North Central Florida area was sold at a Lake City Publix, but lottery officials said Thursday that the ticket had not yet been turned in for the prize.
