A 19-year-old Williston man was killed Monday when he drove off County Road 316 and struck a power pole, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials.
Ethan Monette lost control of his vehicle around 4:45 p.m. Monday when he tried to turn east onto CR 316 off of State Road 121, the FHP reported.
Monette graduated last year from Williston High School and worked for a fencing company with his brother, his family said. Monette's brother, Alan Monette, said the family was preparing to meet at their mother's house for a New Years Eve party Monday. When Ethan Monette didn't show up, his brother went looking for him. Alan Monette soon learned of a car accident in the area.
"I just had a feeling it was him," Alan Monette said. "I just didn't have a feeling it would be that bad."
Ethan Monette was not wearing a seat belt, according to the FHP.
Alan Monette described his brother as someone who enjoyed fishing and spending time with his mother. He lived with his girlfriend, Kimmie Brownell.
Ethan Monette had planned to become a firefighter, and he was a Pentecostal.
"He was a Christian," Alan Monette said. "His faith was in Jesus."
In addition to his brother, Ethan Monette is survived by his mother, Brenda Leon, and his father, Alan Monette.
The family is working on funeral arrangements and would accept donations to help cover expenses. Anyone interested in contributing can contact Alan Monette at (352) 438-4147.
