Tebow leads Scripps poll

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow maintained his lead in this week’s Scripps Howard Heisman Trophy poll, though Arkansas running back Darren McFadden narrowed the gap and four players received first-place votes heading into the final week of the season.

With a dominating effort in the Gators’ 45-12 rout of Florida State, Tebow netted six of 10 first-place votes, though his lead over McFadden is only eight points compared to 13 last week over Missouri QB Chase Daniel, who dropped to third this week despite a great game in the Tigers’ 36-28 win over No. Kansas.
Compiled by The Rocky Mountain News, the Scripps poll is in its 21st year, the longest of any poll in the nation. Next week’s final poll has correctly has predicted the Heisman winner 17 of the previous 20 seasons.
There are 10 voters, all college football writers and two from each voting region. The tabulations are made on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with first place receiving five points. First-place votes are in parentheses.
