The Florida career of running back Chevon Walker is over.
Walker has asked for, and been granted, permission to transfer to another school, coach Urban Meyer said Tuesday.
"Chevy is going to transfer," Meyer said. "He asked for his release and was granted his release."
Walker, a redshirt freshman, has not been on Florida's dress roster the last three games. He played in five games this season, with four carries for 14 yards.
Walker came to Florida after a heralded prep career in which he rushed for 2,027 yards and 31 touchdowns as a senior at Fort Myers Riverdale. He chose Florida over Georgia, Auburn, LSU and Michigan.
MANSON MOVES BACK: The Markus Manson experiment at corner back is over for now.
Manson has been moved back to running back this week, and could possibly get some carries this Saturday against Florida Atlantic.
"He's been looking pretty good for us," Meyer said. "He might (play Saturday). He's got a lot of experience. He's played some football for us."
Manson spent his first two seasons at Florida at running back, ranking second on the team with 365 yards during his freshman season in 2005. Manson only got four carries his sophomore year before being moved to cornerback prior to this season.
Injuries hurt Manson's progress at corner, but Meyer said he is once again 100 percent.
ALVAREZ'S MARK: Andre Caldwell could pass Carlos Alvarez's school record for career receptions Saturday against Florida Atlantic.
Caldwell needs eight catches to tie Alvarez's mark of 172 catches, which was set between 1969-71. Caldwell surged into second place on the school's all-time receptions list, passing Willie Jackson with a career-high 11 catches against South Carolina last Saturday.
"That's well deserved," Meyer said. "This isn't some small school. Some of the finest receivers in the history of college football played here."
Interestingly, Caldwell passed his brother, Reche, for 11th place on Florida's career yards list with 2,089 with his career-best 164-yard receiving performance Saturday.
ETC. Meyer said freshman safety Jamar Hornsby will return to practice next Monday after taking care of "personal business." ... Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Terron Sanders practiced Tuesday, but is not 100 percent, Meyer said. Sanders injured his ankle during Florida's loss to Georgia Oct. 27. ... Freshman right guard Maurkice Pouncey (ankle) is expected to return to practice today. ... Caldwell said he doesn't want to know what is happening in Athens, Ga. Saturday when Kentucky faces SEC East leader Georgia. "I don't want to know the ups and downs of the game," Caldwell said. "I just want to know what happened at the end."
