Gainesville Fire Rescue is warning residents of a phone scam where someone is soliciting money, supposedly as a donation to the fire rescue agency.

So far there has been one complaint, but the agency is concerned that others received similar calls and offered cash, thinking they were making a valid donation, according to GFR spokeswoman Laura Koppel.

The agency has been involved in some fundraising, such as the annual Fill the Boot drive that raises money for Muscular Dystrophy Association. But Koppel said Gainesville Fire Rescue does not solicit money over the phone.

If there are any questions about the phone scam or complaints from residents, call 352-334-5065.
