Clifford Lett couldn't convince his nephew to come to Florida.
So now he's working on his son.
Lett's nephew, Chris Lett, considered Florida and Alabama as a top cornerback prospect out of Pensacola. Chris chose to play football for the Tide. At 6-foot-2 with a 31-inch vertical leap and a 4.5 time at the 40-yard dash, Chris will have an opportunity to play right away.
Chris Lett is the son of Cliff's older brother.
"I tried to get him to go to Florida," Clifford Lett said. "I talked to him over and over about it."
But Lett has an ace in the hole. Lett's 14-year-old son, Clifford Jr., also is a standout cornerback who will begin his freshman year at Titusville High. Like Chris, Clifford Jr.'s first love is football.
"He's a football player," the elder Lett said. "I can't even get him to touch a basketball."
Clifford said he's already taking steps to make sure his son doesn't make the same choice his nephew did.
"I'm leaning him that way," he said. "We have Gator stuff up all over the house. He's a big Gator fan."
