A Lake City man, listed with critical injuries following a Tuesday night crash in Columbia County, was in good condition early Wednesday.

Cody L. Jones, 18, had been driving south on County Road 135 about a half mile north of U.S. 90 at about 10 p.m. when his vehicle swerved off the road, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The 1990 BMW crashed into a tree on the driver's side of the vehicle, according to troopers. Investigators did not know what caused Jones' vehicle to leave the roadway.

Jones was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, troopers reported. The vehicle's airbag activated due to the wreck.

Jones was taken to Shands at the University of Florida where he was listed as a patient Wednesday morning, according to the hospital.
