Police investigating Starke man's death

Starke Police responding to a report of a shooting found a fatally wounded man inside a Bradford County home Tuesday evening, officers reported.

Edward Otis Smith, 55, had a puncture wound to the left front area of his chest, according to the Starke Police Department.

Police had been called to 813 Ida St. because of a report of a shooting shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, they found the wounded man on the living room floor of his home, officers reported.

Smith was treated at the scene and taken to Shands Starke where he was later pronounced dead at about 5:30 p.m.

As of early Wednesday, officers had not announced any arrests in connection with the investigation. Police and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement were investigating Smith's death.

Police were awaiting autopsy results to confirm the cause of death.
