Gainesville Police were searching for two men they believe stole thousands of dollars in jewelry from two businesses at The Oaks Mall.
Officers reported one man distracted an employee while the other removed jewelry from Jewelry Works and Creative Jewelry, said Lt. Scott Meffen. The theft occurred at one store late Wednesday and the other Thursday morning.
"They had their game plan together. They knew what they were doing when they entered," Meffen said.
Two others businesses at the mall, Diamond and Gold Valley and Gold Valley, also reported suspicious incidents in which employees said they saw the same men. But nothing was taken from either store.
Meffen did not have a dollar value for the thefts or a description of the stolen jewelry, saying officers still were speaking with employees Thursday evening.
Officers also were examining surveillance tapes taken at the stores when the thefts occurred. Police advised other area stores to be on the lookout for the men or any suspicious activity that might be linked to a theft and to immediately call officers.
