Gainesville Regional Utilities will team up with the Lowe’s store on NW 13th Street Saturday to provide new, efficient room air conditioners for just $20 to the first 100 GRU customers who bring in their old, working A/C unit to be recycled.
City of Gainesville Public Works staff will be on hand to recycle the old units, and customers will have the chance to ask questions about energy efficiency.
In order to buy one of the units, you must bring a photo ID and a copy of your GRU utility bill dated no earlier than March 2007.
Quantity is limited to one unit per GRU electric customer while supplies last, and the old unit must be in working order. New units available are 10,500 BTU Energy Star models with an energy efficiency ratio of 10.8.
Customers not among the first 100 at Saturday’s event may purchase a unit and apply to receive a $150 mail-in rebate from GRU to help with the cost of the purchase. The difference between the $150 rebate and the cost of the unit would be around $60, according to Katie Weitekamp of GRU.
Saturday's event runs from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Lowe’s parking lot at 2564 NW 13th St.
