Springhills would be positive addition to our community

Since moving to Gainesville I have noticed a basic anomaly regarding development.

Gainesville, I am told, is the greatest place to work, have a business and enjoy living. However, it seems that the only way we can get new development is to give away millions of dollars in tax benefits to developers. Is that not contradictory?

Now we have a developer who wants to bring a well-planned community addition. Any use of Business Math 101 will point out the long-term economic benefits of Springhills. Yet, we have a large uprising of NIMBY folks.

I don't understand why a supposed professional staff is recommending against such a positive, self-funding development.

Andrew H. Olson,

Gainesville
