Designed for speed

"It doesn't answer your phone, it doesn't play music. It's got one thing in mind, and that's so you can defeat the law and break the law."
State Sen. Steve Oelrich, R-Cross Creek, on his bill to ban radar detectors.
Bravo to former Alachua County Sheriff Oelrich for stating the obvious: "Radar detectors are designed to try to avoid the speed laws of the state of Florida." As a career law enforcement officer, Oelrich doesn't understand why politicians won't outlaw a device that, by design, helps people break the law. Enforcing the speed limit saves lives. We urge the Legislature this coming session to pass Oelrich's bill.
