The threat of winter weather has caused Delta Airlines to cancel a flight Thursday morning at the Gainesville Regional Airport.

The 6 a.m. flight from Gainesville to Atlanta has been cancelled due to the possibility of bad weather, according to an airport spokeswoman.

The National Weather Service is predicting freezing rain and sleet in Georgia tonight through Thursday morning. Delta is cancelling as many as 100 flights through Atlanta as a precaution.

"We are proactively canceling some flights in order to minimize the weather’s impact on operations," according to a message on the Delta Web site.

The airline urges travelers to check their flight status on the site, www.delta.com, or call 1-800-325-1999 for more information.
