Over the past months I have read numerous articles in The Gainesville Sun concerning the high gas prices in Gainesville. It has been stated on many occasions that the gas prices in Gainesville are the highest in the state. That is absolutely untrue!
I live in Dixie County, (life-long resident) and very often make the drive from Dixie to Gainesville. The gas prices in Dixie consistently average about 10 cents per gallon more. Our gas prices seem to be the first to go up when there is a spike, and the last to go down.
Being a Dixie resident there are many things that I am extremely proud of, but this is not one of them. While I am sure that there are reasons for "the excess," I just thought I would set the record straight. If driving over our way, you might want to fuel up before you get here.
