The second-ranked Florida women's tennis team continued its streak of season-opening wins Thursday, when the 2007 dual match season got under way with the Gators defeating Stetson 7-0 at the Ring Tennis Complex.
The Gators, who have now won 22 consecutive season-openers, improved to 32-3 all-time in their first match of the season.
"I liked how we competed," said UF coach Roland Thornqvist. "We connected on all six courts in singles to compete as a team, which was a carryover from doubles. As a coach, you can't ask for much more. We came out and did what we wanted to accomplish"
Winning in singles for the Gators were: Diana Srebrovic, Megan Alexander, Whitney Benik, Csilla Borsanyi, Anastasia Revzina and Nina Suvak.
In doubles it was: Whitney Benik-Nina Suvak , Megan Alexander-Diana Srebrovic and Csilla Borsanyi-Lolita Frangulyan.
The Gators next host UCF at 1 p.m. Saturday.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
The 11th-ranked Florida men's swimming and diving team (6-5, 3-2 SEC) wraps up the regular season this weekend with a pair of dual meets at the O'Connell Center. The Gators host No. 13 Tennessee at 7 tonight and FAU at 1 p.m. Saturday
"This will be a great weekend of competition, especially on Friday night with a good Tennessee team coming in," Florida coach Gregg Troy said. "We put a lot of importance on the end of the dual season because it lets us know where we're at as a team, so people will see some good swimming at these two meets."
Florida's victories over Alabama and South Carolina on Jan. 20 gave the program 499 all-time men's dual-meet wins. The Gators could reach the 500-win plateau as early as tonight.
Florida will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday as a prelude to its showdown with the Owls, who enter the meet with a 1-5 record.
