Four men attacked a Gainesville Regional Utilities employee who had been replacing meters Wednesday afternoon.
Irv Sterling, 54, fought with the men who rushed at him after he got into his truck and aimed a gun at him, Alachua County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Keith Faulk said. The attack occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the 6800 block of SW 6th Place.
Sterling wrestled the gun from the men who tried to rob him. But they began punching him and got the gun back. Faulk said they hit Sterling in the head with the weapon before running away.
Anyone with information about the attackers is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 955-1818 or Crime Stoppers at 372-STOP.
