"Whether God created the Earth in a millisecond or whether it evolved over billions of years, the issue we agree on
is that it needs to be cared for today."
Rich Cizik, vice president of government relations for the National Association of Evangelicals.
Too often, scientists and evangelicals have been at odds over issues like stem cell research and creationism. But this week, 28 scientists and evangelical leaders signed an ''Urgent Call to Action'' to advocate a national response to global warming. "We're all on this boat together," Carl Safina, president of the Blue Ocean Institute, said. "'They (evangelicals) have the power to change the political winds that the scientific community does not have, and the scientific community has the information that we all need." Sounds like a match made in heaven. Word is that even President Bush will jump on the global warming bandwagon during his State of the Union address. Now that will be a miracle.
