There's only one thing more enjoyable than having a blast with some great music, good times and good company.
And that's doing all of the above for a good cause at the same time - for which there are amazing opportunities this week.
Perhaps the folks at Hallmark forgot to tell us it's "National Charity Week" or maybe the large dose of good-cause karma in the air is just a coincidence.
Regardless, the timing for some of the area's most worthy, and most interesting, benefits of the year is right now. So why not do something really different this weekend?
Why not have a blast, enjoy yourself AND help a good cause at the same time?
Here's a quick peek at what's going on (for details, see "Benefits" in today's Calendar on page 12):
Everything about this event is win-win: Great jazz, funk and dance music in a smoke-free environment to benefit the Keira Grace Foundation, which helps children with cancer. 7-11 p.m. Saturday at the Gainesville Country Club; $60 advance, 75 at the door (538-1676).
This benefit to raise funds for expansion of the Phillips
Center offers live music, dinner, dancing and behind-the-scenes tours for a look at the center you've never seen before. 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the center; $150 per person. (392-2787)
You can be the star (or among them) in this karaoke contest to benefit the American Cancer Society. Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Alachua Recreation Center, on the football field; $50 entry free, $250-$1,000 to sponsor (538-6097).
This week's benefits run the gamut as well, from top dollar down to the other side of the coin, including:
This benefit - with Christine and Billy Donovan hosting a concert by Sister Hazel's Ken Block and Andrew Copeland - is for Phase II construction of St. Francis Catholic High School.
It's tonight (from 6:30-10 p.m) and it's thinking big in an intimate setting (tickets are $1,000; 376-6545).
Dance to live music and raise money for Al'z Place Alzheimer's Day Care. 7 p.m. Saturday; $25 (265-9040).
