Imagine winning a $2.1 million ''ski-in, ski-out'' home near Winter Park, Colo. For the first time in its 11-year giveaway history, HGTV has placed its popular Dream Home sweepstakes in Colorado.
Designed as a spec house, the rustic stone-and- timber residence features steeply peaked roofs and three stories of warm, intimate spaces. The front of the home looks out at the Continental Divide; the back is screened by a stunning forest.
''We were looking for a location with a dream-line quality and easy access,'' says HGTV spokeswoman Emily Yarborough. ''I just remember standing on top of the ski lift, and it was so quiet and the mountains seemed to go on forever,'' the Tennessee native says.
Winter Park resident Andy Snow began building the home in September 2005 in a new development called Bridger's Cache. About the time the framing was done, HGTV purchased the residence and Snow completed the work.
''It's got the wow factor even from the street,'' says Snow, 41. ''You can strap your skis on in the garage, ski right down to the lift and at the end of the day, ski back to your house.''
The 4,400-square-foot residence offers all the comforts of home, but at a luxury level. Amenities include a generous garage with lots of built-in storage, a jetted bathtub in the master suite and a plasma-screen TV in the entertainment room. Add a new SUV, a bundle of gifts plus $250,000 in cash to defray taxes, and you're set.
