Hanrahan, as The Gainesville Sun said in its 1996 article, was, " . . . a last minute candidate." She's made herself into a career politician by doing exactly what I predicted she would do in 1996: By selling out Gainesville to absentee out-of-town landlords who take our tax dollars out of Alachua County and turn our pristine oasis into something resembling an Orlando mall. The result is the many oversized cookie-cutter imitation-brick buildings cropping up all over town.
In 2004, Hanrahan won her victory with a whopping 8,767 votes. That's out of a registered population of 53,365. So she got a little more than half of 28% of the total people who could have voted. Somebody run. Please. Somebody with the guts to be who they are.
