Ford deserved better coverage

I was really disappointed when I opened the Sunday Gainesville Sun (Dec. 31) and saw the photograph of Saddam's hanging. Below it was the picture of Betty Ford being helped to her husband's casket to say good-bye.
I am disappointed and appalled that The Gainesville Sun (or any U.S. newspaper for that matter) would sensationalize Saddam's hanging over the death of a president of the United States.
No matter how you felt about President Ford's tenure in office, he took over this country at a difficult time, which now seems wild in comparison to what we face. He was a president of the United States and deserved complete coverage of the details of his last trip on this Earth.
How do we explain to our children and grandchildren this front page of The Gainesville Sun?

Patricia M. Courtenay,

Gainesville
