There was this young guy that came to work for the UF athletic department some years ago. Nobody had heard of him, he wasn't a big name ex-football star. Actually, he had played lacrosse at a small Northern college.
He served his time in the ranks, and over time his bosses recognized his management talent, his intelligence, and above all, his ethics and leadership qualities.
Today Jeremy Foley is acknowledged by his peers as just about the best college athletic director in the business. His recruitment of outstanding young men and women with coaching talent, his insistence on professionalism and unquestioned honorable conduct all down the line, has brought us to the top, not just in the major sports but all UF intercollegiate sports.
So whether or not we win the big one next week to become the first school to ever win national titles in both basketball and football in the same year, we can look to Jeremy for getting us here.
What we townsfolk should do is declare a Jeremy Foley Appreciation Day. And the sooner the better.
