Where: Florida Field, Gainesville

What happened: Having waited so long for the magic moment to finally arrive, Gators everywhere knew it wouldn't be easy clinching the first SEC title in school history. And it wasn't. After building a commanding 28-6 halftime lead, Florida had to hang on for dear life to whip the 'Cats and win the school's first official conference title. The Gators didn't clinch the victory until tailback Errict Rhett scored on a 2-yard run with 2:22 to play, ending UK's frantic comeback attempt. The 'Cats had staged a dramatic rally behind quarterback Pookie Jones, who ran through the vaunted UF defense for three touchdowns in the second half to make it a 28-26 game with 7:53 to play.

Who was the hero: Rhett saved the day with his success on the ground in the clinching drive. He finished with 154 yards rushing on 26 carries.

Why it mattered: The victory gave the long-suffering Gators their first SEC title.
