Downtown is great as is

I think downtown is great just the way it is. It has great restaurants, two first-rate theater companies, an alternative movie house, live music, free concerts and on the last Friday of each month the local artists and galleries have open studios (plug).
Sometimes I'll get Cafe Americano at one of the outdoor cafes and just sit and watch the world go by and think that this is the way life should be. I think it's the best part of Gainesville.
I'm upset by the way everyone trashes downtown and leaves people with the impression that one will be accosted by homeless panhandlers, etc. You will see an assortment of people, both ethnic and economic diversity. I like places like that. I don't want every one to look the same.
We need to stick up for the downtown area instead of always knocking it. Kicking downtown is like an old Gainesville tradition. Downtown is really a fun place to be the way it is right now.
