WomenBuild is kicking off its “Raise the Roof” pep rally to woo volunteers and funding for its third Habitat for Humanity home in Gainesville.
The event is free and open to the public, and will held 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15 at Oak Hammock Community Center (5000 SW 25th Blvd). Anyone interested in any aspect of a WomenBuild project is invited to attend.
WomenBuild is a Habitat for Humanity International program (www.habitat.org/wb/) that encourages women and girls to have fun and make a difference building homes and communities. Nearly 800 Habitat houses have been built by women crews around the world.
Women do all the work and all the fund-raising for WomenBuild homes. Participants develop their handy(wo)man skills while gaining a “can do “ attitude regarding all things construction. It’s an empowering experience!
“Raise the Roof” will feature a talk by Cindy Holt, last year’s WomenBuild recipient homeowner, and a presentation on last year’s project, along with information about building an energy efficient “green” home, how to protect homes from termites, and how community members can volunteer with WomenBuild or apply as a homeowner.
