MIAMI - A man shot his wife dead in the driveway of their home, and barricaded himself in the residence before fatally shooting himself late Monday, police said.
The woman's 15-year-old daughter ran to a neighbor's home when her mother was shot, as her stepfather, 64, also fired at her, Detective Nelda Fonticiella said. The girl was not hurt.
Authorities did not immediately release the names of the three people.
Police were called to the home about 4:15 p.m. by the neighbor, and found the 39-year-old woman dead in the driveway and the suspect, her husband, barricaded inside their home, Fonticiella said.
Over the next five hours, the police tried to make contact with the man using a bullhorn and telephoning the residence, but were unsuccessful, Fonticiella said.
They eventually used tear gas and an instrument that creates a loud noise as a distraction, and entered the home, where they found the man dead, Fonticiella said.
The neighborhood was evacuated for several hours, but police said residents were allowed to return to their homes late Monday.
The couple's daughter was being interviewed by investigators late Monday and would later be placed in the care of a custodian, police said.
Autopsies were planned.
