Riley Cooper will bring a huge amount of talent to the University of Florida sidelines and dugouts. He was a star safety and wide receiver, as well as one of the top centerfielders in the nation at Central Catholic High School (Clearwater, Fla.).
Position: WR, S
Projected as: S, WR
Position Rank: 19
Year: Class of 2006
High School: Central Catholic HS
Cooper has freakish size—6-foot-4, 205-pounds—and speed, running a legitimate 4.37 second 40-yard dash. He has verbally committed to Florida as a wide receiver, though he will be looked at as a safety as well.
In 2005, Cooper had 103 tackles, five interceptions and 10 passes defended as a defensive back and caught 34 passes for 572 yards and seven touchdowns. He has been compared to Randy Moss and former Gator stars Reche Caldwell and Reidel Anthony by Central Catholic head coach Michael Jalazo.
Cooper is rated as one of the top-100 football prospects by Rivals.com and was projected to be taken in the top-five rounds of the Major League Baseball draft had he not committed to Florida. He expects to play both football and baseball for the Gators early in his career.
