Good choices for voters

With the filing date for Gainesville City Commission candidates passed, four honest, well-meaning people have declared themselves for the voters to choose from March 7.
In these times, as we see in most times, of political controversy and contention its good to see good quality people willing to undergo the rigors of fund raising, campaigning and considerable loss of personal privacy in order to be candidates.
Of course there will be disagreement on which city issues should receive priority and how best to solve Gainesville's problems. But there should be full agreement that if we don't get involved in the campaigns or at least turn out to vote, we fail in our citizenship and don't deserve good candidates for any of the '06 elections.
