What freedoms are lost?

Jeff Bercuvitz and Argy L. Hager (Voice, Jan. 21) worry that in some way Judge Samuel Alito will take away their freedoms. May I ask what freedoms they are talking about?
I find hope in Judge Alito's record of following the Constitution, not legislating from the bench. This country was established as a republic of 13 sovereign republics. it was never meant to be an all powerful central government.
For over 200 years our federal government has usurped the power and sovereignty of the several states until we no freedoms left. Case in point, freedom of speech, destroyed by politically correct hate speech laws worse that the sedition laws of the late 1790s. Property rights have been destroyed by the liberal-dominated Supreme Court of today. You can fill a book with the freedoms lost to the liberal, activist judges who ignore our Constitution.
We have a Constitution, not a "living constituent." Follow it! I will not live to see our government free again. Hopefully Bercuvitz's and Hager's sons and daughters will. Maybe under a few more judges like Alito they will.
