As vice-chair of the Keep Alachua County Beautiful Mural Committee, I was delighted to see the large picture in your newspaper of the sea turtle that is part of the mural we are painting on the Archer I-75 underpass.
However, clarification needs to be made concerning the caption underneath the photo. The sponsor of the mural is our executive director, Jean Rochford. Using money that her father left her when he died four years ago, she is having the mural of "Atlantis" painted by Matt Hawkins in her father's memory.
Credit needs to be given to Jeanne for this generous donation to our community.
"Atlantis" will include sea life and underwater ruins with the vertical support columns of the underpass being an integral part of the design. Our hope is that as cars travel through the underpass they will feel as if they are driving through the underwater city.
The Mural Committee has selected a countryside theme for the Williston I-75 underpass. We are looking for a sponsor who may want to have it painted in someone's memory.
